In the latest quality control news from China it seems as if those overly sugared Eggs from Cadbury are now on the list of harmful Chinese made products. Recent studies show that they testing as having a chemical called Melamine that is used in a variety of things from pesticides to hardening concrete.
Wikipedia says this about its toxicity: Melamine by itself is nontoxic in low doses, but when combined with cyanuric acid it can cause fatal kidney stones due to the formation of an insoluble melamine cyanurate. Melamine is described as being "Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Chronic exposure may cause cancer or reproductive damage. Eye, skin and respiratory irritant.” However, the toxic dose is on a par with common table salt with an LD50 of more than 3 grams per kilogram of bodyweight.
Some of that is over my head, but what I want to know is: "is this all an accident?" Have we been ingesting this stuff for years but only now people are starting to care what is in the products? Is this some recent "terrorist" attack on the US? Why is it that over the past two years there has been a concentrated amount of crap coming from China? Conspiracies welcome...
I always knew that there was something sinister about these vile concoctions.
ReplyDeleteJust please, do not let me get started on the conspiracy track (although "conspiracy" may be the wrong word; it is a bit harsh and brings up images of sitting in a darkened cinderblock basement with a colander on one's head (tinfoil having been proven relatively ineffective)).
I served as a missionary teaching the Chinese people. I still love the people, all these years later. However, the mainland Chinese government? Pfft. Evil as the day is long, and then some. You do not have to do much to convince me of diabolical intent on behalf of that government.
Now.... Let me get that colander back on my head and get the lights turned back off. Just swing the door closed on your way out, eh?
