So why do you think it is that Lindsey Lohan, poster child for all that is wrong in young Hollywood, feels that in between her trips to rehab she has become qualified to dish out advice on politicians? Ms. Lohan recently came out with a written statement to the press speaking out against Sarah Palin as being a "'Narrow-Minded Homophobe'". Way deep Lindsey, way deep.Read this article for a good laugh. Lindsey is quoted as saying in her statement: "I am not against Sarah Palin as a mother or woman," she points out that "women have come a long way in the fight to have the choice over what we do with our bodies. ... And it's frightening to see that a woman in 2008 would negate all of that."
She then ends her 'eloquence' with, "Oh, and ... hint hint Pali-pal -- don't pose for anymore tabloid covers, you're not a celebrity, you're running for office to represent our, your, my COUNTRY! And in the words of Pamela Anderson, 'She can suck it.'"
Anyone who quotes Pamela Anderson as a political or social authority should just be immediately disqualified. Why would we care about Lindsey Lohan's opinion on social commentary in the first place? Oh wait we don't care about what she has to say... sorry Lindsey you're not that important. The fact that she supports Obama is just another one of the millions of reasons why voting for him would mean that like minded people would be ignorantly supporting whatever he wants to accomplish in similar "naive" fashion.
One wondering about the strength of Lindsey's political opinions just needs to look at her judgment generally.
ReplyDeleteI mean, aside from her personal life-choices since she gained her majority, one simply needs to look at the sense she has used in her professional life.
Freaky Friday remake?
Mean Girls, anyone?
Herbie Fully Loaded. Really? A movie which may have single-handedly revived and killed a franchise (arguably beloved) based solely on her performance?
A Prarie Home Companion (I have yet to meet anyone who has actually seen this movie.
I Know Who Killed Me. Wait, didn't she already re-make The Parent Trap? Oh, this is the post-18-year-old version.
Enough said?
While they are entitled to their opinions, before Hollywooders open their mouths, they should consider that each of them has a history of "common sense" (or lack thereof) in the public record.
They should also consider that their opinions really matter no more than Joe Bloe from Topeka or Jane Doe from Walla Walla. Possibly less, in some cases.
While I am a fan of a few of of the girl's "assets'" clearly her opinion on EVERYTHING has to be called into question. That being said I want her to speak up more and louder if possible on behalf of her candidate. The more her, Pam and Matt open their mouths the stronger McCain gets.

ReplyDeleteWhile I understand and appreciate the logic behind your statement "want[ing] her to speak up more and louder if possible on behalf of her candidate," I must disagree to some degree. You assert that "The more her, Pam and Matt open their mouths the stronger McCain gets." However, you must remember the "sheep" factor.
There are an embarassingly large number of people in this country whose sole news source is TMZ/E.T./Access Hollywood and for whom no Hollywood "actor" can do no wrong. To these people, being in Hollywood must require a certain amount of intelligence, common sense, savvy, etc. To these people, the more that the Hollywood crowd crow about their candidate, the more likely the sheep are to simply vote for him. Plus, following their idols' lead gives them a connection with these people that the sheep desperately want.
"Well, Lindsey Lohan and Ben Affleck say it's true, so it must be! I have to vote for him; this way I'm just like Lindsey and maybe Ben will respect me if/when I ever meet him!"
[shudder]
While we are counseled to study out and ponder the policies, backgrounds, and ideas of the candidated, only the real thinkers do so in a competent manner. The sheep think that watching Access Hollywood and Jay Leno constitutes research and study, and day-dreaming about their idols equals pondering about their choice.
Case in point: I have a good friend whose wife is a very well-paid paralegal in a large firm. She is very intelligent and charming, and has done well for herself. My friend, however, says that the only television program she watches is Entertainment Tonight.
