A little admission of guilt here to start things off. I spent all last week in Disney World. I know that takes me down a few pegs but being there actually made me realize where politicians come from. They don’t have home states, they are actually animatronic robots created by Disney, how else can you explain their robotic movements and choreographed, nonstop one liners?
Having come to that realization it was heartening to listen to Sarah Palin’s address to the Republican convention last week. For the first time I actually felt like I was looking at some one who hasn’t sat through the endless hours or PR training politicians go through to learn how to become robots. Her very movements said “I actually am a regular person, just smart and driven.” Perhaps Juan McCain isn’t as ignorant as I thought.
But before I join the conservative course line in singing “I have a friend in Palin” I just have to point out a few things. #1 Did anyone hear anything about illegal immigration all last week? Other then Juan saying his line about being all God’s children there wasn’t a hint at national sovereignty. No mention of the fact that there is HUMAN SMUGLING going on in my home town. That’s right it’s 2008 in America and there are people smuggling people and holding them for ransom right here in our own nation. Did anyone talk about the burden on our welfare system millions of illegals create? Sure they talked about cutting taxes but what about cutting spending?
#2 Lines like this drive me crazy “we’ll pursue a pro-growth agenda” is there anyone out there that is pursuing an anti-growth agenda? Not that they would say of course. But then she follows it up with this “focused on creating jobs” News flash, it’s not the governments responsibility to create jobs. It’s the government’s job to stay the heck out of the way so I can create jobs.
#3 When talking about energy policy she sights her experience in Alaska and said “When oil and gas prices went up dramatically, and filled up the state treasury, I sent a large share of that revenue right back where it belonged -- directly to the people of Alaska.” Last time I checked that’s income redistribution, much like the liberals want to do, but I guess that kind of redistribution is ok if a Republican does it right? That money doest belong to every Alaskan, if people are like they are in Arizona there are dead beats there who try as hard as they can not to work, how do they have any stake in what others have produced?
Look I could go on for ever like this. Just read her article I have linked and decide for yourself. From my perspective it is just a light, born charismatic christen version of the hell fire and damnation taught at the church of Obama.
"Socialism Light" is how M. Galt described this to me a second ago on the phone as we were discussing this topic. Government redistributing surplus funds, government creating jobs, and the government overstepping their bounds. As any God fearing Libertarian/Conservative Republican/Light Constitutionalist I can recognize the wolf in sheeps clothing but I have to say when the Republican party trots out their cute little wolf with pink bows and the Demos trot out their "Good Ol' Boy" plagerist wolf hungry to eat our babies I will take the bows and flowery promises over the strong socialist agenda from the democrats. I was raised in a home with a strong conservative father(Rep.) and a fairly liberal mother(Dem.) and was thus always presented with both sides of the spectrum. It was thus reashuring to me when sitting with my mother to hear her say that heck would freeze over before she would vote for Obama and his henchman. Palin and McCain may not be that great an alternative, but it sure as heck is better than the other option... unless the Lord resurects Reagan for us...
ReplyDeleteIt could be worse, the government could be keeping the money for themselves. If government is imperfect I would rather it be this way, the Sarah Palin way.
ReplyDeleteI love how Regan is the answer to most Republicans. That man spent so much money! Does anyone remember Star Wars? We should, because we are still paying for it.
Lets face it, government spends money. Taxes are all about the redistribution of funds. That is what they are supposed to do. So why is it that you are so upset when you hear some of that money coming back to the people?
In Utah when the government had a tax surplus you know what everyone here said? "Where can we spend that money?" How about on my house to pay down other debts? At least in Alaska the people got it back!
M. Galt, - Disney didn't force you to go there, so stop blaming all the evil in the world on Walt. It almost sounds like you are blaming the drug dealer for the users addiction. You don't have to buy the stuff they are selling, but you did.
Great logic James. By the same line of thinking why bother preaching repentance? We are all going to sin anyways so why not have some of that sin come my way? Instead of just accepting that they just spend money we should demand that they not spend money, we should call them on the ridiculousness of such comments.
ReplyDeleteCall politicians on what comments you may just know that some of that may come back to you as well M. Galt. There is a significant difference between sin and taxes.
ReplyDeleteWe preach repentance because each person is accountable for their mistakes. But we also preach it because in repenting people come unto Christ and get their lives in order.
You making the correlation that preaching repentance is like paying taxes is not a rational correlation. A call to repentance is a call to come unto the Lord. A call to stop government spending is a call to stop government spending. There is no higher motive in calling someone to such a course correction.
Palin didn't spend the money! She gave it back to the people she could. What would have done if you were in her shoes as governor of Alaska? She did the highest possible use of that money, But you are complaining about it.
Give a better solution of what she should have done with the money. I'll wait....
Ok James I can see we will have to take things back to Logic 101, being a liberal arts major I am sure you skipped that class. I was not compare sin and tax but rather the invalidity of the argument you are using to support your argument for wealth redistribution.
ReplyDeleteThe solution is this thing we call the Constitution. The government should not be taxing like it does period. So the argument is moot to start.
I was not a liberal arts major thank you very much. I was not one of "those people".
ReplyDeleteI agree the governments version of taxation today is quite a bit different than what it was intended in the days of good ol' George the first to our current George. However, the concept of taxation was meant to be an evolving one based on the needs of the government and the people. I am sure you will admit that there is a need for change, but change to what? Just less taxation is an incomplete solution and you can take that back to Logic 101 as well.
You two are blow hards just spouting off and not letting the actual readers of the blog comment. I think M. Gault makes a very good point about Sarah Palin. However, her speech rejuvenated my hope that John McCain is interested in serving the people. I believe in my heart of hearts that people are genuinely good and want to do good....sometimes in very misguided and dangerous ways but not the less they desire good. I think a true genius is someone who can look and listen to others and study the past and present to make an informed decision. I desire someone who loves the constitution and the country. And whether right or wrong I felt better about things after hearing both John McCain and Sarah Palin speak. Again I hold out hope and faith and continue to fight for what I know is right. M. Gault you are asking perfection of imperfect people and believing that you know it all and James you are too quick to forgive misguided and stupid ideas spouted out.
ReplyDeleteYour right I should be more forgiving to M. Galt's stupid idea's. Thank you for setting me straight.
ReplyDeleteI have a problem with both James and M.galt and their comments on Palin. James is blinded by her "Newbies," as my 5 year old calls them, and M.galt hates the political machine yet gets upset when anyone has viewpoints that differ from their political parties supposed standpoint. It is OK for Palin not to notice illegal immigration. it isn't as much of an issue in Alaska. In fact, I bet if we started deporting all illegal aliens to Alaska, they would stop coming here due to inhumane punishments of foreigners.
ReplyDeleteBack to the issue at hand. M.galt, Sarah is right you will never find the perfect politician until you run for office yourself. And James I quote to you Proverbs 5:18-19
18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
Har har har....
ReplyDeleteI like fruit.
ReplyDeleteFruit is good. I just wish it wasn't being redistributed through society the way it is.
