I realize that Iran is being led by some crazy nut jobs that have little good to say about America, but when the federal government busts down a Muslim mosque simply because they have ties to Iran they have crossed a line. According to this article, the Federal Government has seized the 500 million dollars in assets from 4 mosques in New York.
I get that terrorism is alive and well, but the war should not turn on the rights of the citizens just because of a possible connection to a country who could possibly do something against us. The reality is that there are plenty of other ways to fight the political war against this country without placing the rights of innocent American's and other religions second.
This is a wrong step simply because I doubt there was not a better way to take your aggressions our on Iran. Had they busted down a corporate office that would be one thing but they entered their temples. What would it be like if you were in the middle of an initiatory and the feds came barging through telling everyone to get out and that they were seizing the operations of the LDS temples? Considering how this government has been defining terrorists this may not be as far a jump as you might think.
Well considering that we don't plot to kill Americans in our temples I don't think that is a fair comparison. What about Major Hasan? He joined the military because we are tolerant. He spoke out against the war while in the military because we are tolerant. He exhibited multiple signs that he was a radical islamo-jihadist but we allowed him to carry on because we are tolerant. He attended the same mosque as two of the 9-11 hijackers because we are tolerant. And now 13 people are dead and 30 some odd people have had their lives changed forever through injuries inflicted by Hasan because we are tolerant. If there was a legitimate reason to tear down that mosque then it needed to be done. Don't trust what is portrayed in the media. I no longer have t.v. but my guess is that the media is having a hay-day with protecting Maj. Hasan and his ties to Islam. I know that not every Muslim is a terrorist, but why does it appear that nearly every terrorist is a Muslim? On the radio I even heard Chris Matthews acknowledge that Hasan tried to contact Al Qaeda and then proceed to say, "Is that a crime, to try to contact Al Qaeda?" Well Chris Matthews, as a matter of fact...... considering Al Qaeda attacked the United States I would say, yes it is. To take down terrorism - resolve in my opinion is the most important ingredient. I don't want to live like Israelis where every time I get on a public bus I have to wonder if it will be my last day on earth because of some whacked out suicide bomber.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore here's another thought - I think Rev. Wright's church should be torn down. He's spreading hate and avarice and it's creating factions and animosity amongst Americans.
Freedom of religion is freedom of religion. People killed, raped, and stole from the mormons back in the day and used polygamy as their rationale.
ReplyDeleteWhat was done was not just because it violated freedom of religion. If a law was broken it was most likely not broken because of the religion therefore the religion should not have been the method of prosecution.
Fear of a religion is the gateway to regulations against all religion. I am not excusing their behaviors but I do believe that in a world that has a growing distrust of religion this is not helping to keep the governments hands separate from the religion. Separation of church of state should be kept separate. If a crime has been committed then there is probably another way to prosecute.
Why is your argument that I pander to the media influence just because I disagree with you?
GWH- We don't plot to kill Americans in our temple, but that doesn't stop people assuming we sacrifice our own children there, or that we plan how to eradicate all gay people from the face of the earth while in a session.
ReplyDeleteI have met many muslim people in my life and have yet to meet one that even wants to try and understand how terrorists have warped their religion to excuse their actions and feelings.
Yes there are some disgusting people in those Muslim mosques, but there are disgusting people who buy temple recommends and attend our temples as well.
Personally, I feel the government better be able to prove without a doubt that those mosques were directly involved in terrorist activities. If not, and America continues to "tolerate" these raids our temples are not safe and the things that we consider sacred can be scrutinized at any point for simply belonging to a "peculiar people."
I don't know about the arguments for or against any specific operation.
ReplyDeleteOne thing seems clear to me, however:
I don't think we have the right to fight dirty because our enemy doesn't play by the rules. If we can't win playing by the rules then we lose. To me, that is the bright line. Let the Lord be our judge.
If I am attacked and the bottom line is survival I will groin kick eye gouge and downright fight dirty in order to survive. I value my life and the lives of my family. When you are dealing with terrorists there is no "gentlemanly" warfare. Such a perspective lead to the fall of the British in the Revolutionary war. It will ultimately lead to our ruin because of whimps that are unwilling to fight an enemy on their terms because we think we are above it. If I remember correctly we never asked to have the twin towers blown up....But that's right, it was Bush's fault.
ReplyDeletei believe we should fight back, but I will not give up freedom for safety. If I have to give up freedom to worship how and where I choose just so I can be safe from terrorists, I would rather just let the terrorists come. I value the lives of my husband and kids, but would never trade away their freedoms for their safety. How would they be safe then?
ReplyDeleteMuch like the armies of Helaman, whose parents vowed never to shed blood again, but brought up children willing to give their lives in defense of freedom, my kids will know the value of freedom
