The Citadel of Liberty under siege!
The question was posed can you support Obama in good conscience and still maintain your temple worthiness? After listening to one of our previous prophets speak on socialism, I pose the question can you in good conscience espouse the philosophies of Marx and Engels which seek to tear down this nation (a bastion of liberty in the world) and be a temple worthy member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints? The conflict going on today between Conservativism and Liberalism is a continuation of the war in heaven. It's the same two philosophies - individual liberty vs. compulsion. Who's on the Lord side, who?

Socialism is a cancer. It reeks of the same lies that Satan uses to lead people with flaxen cords, to hell. At no time in history has socialism ever worked, and inevitably the people have always suffered under the oppressive regimes it produces. This is not an opinion statement, it is an observance of historical fact.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is anyway to get around it. While I think this is still a stretch I think that it does appear that socialism is in discord with the principles of the gospel. This prophetic statement should be seen as a warning. Those that continue to support socialism do so in opposition to prophetic council.
ReplyDeleteSocialism is perhaps one of the greatest if not the greatest deception that Satan has been able to perpetrate in the realm of political ideology. The prophet seemed quite clear in his words.
GWH do you have the reference to the original text of when and where this was given? I would love to read the rest of the talk.
Sorry, I don't but President Benson gave a lot of talks on the evils of socialism. There is a book published called "An Enemy Hath Done This" which was a compilation of talks on socialism by President Benson. It's out of print but you may be able to find a copy on Amazon or through the library. It's good stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe link on our page to Eborn Books is usually a good source for out of print LDS stuff. I will check with them in the morning. Sounds like it would be a convincing read.
ReplyDeleteA couple of points.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be so sure as to say that "conservatism and liberalism" are the direct relatives of the war in heaven. Often times those that describe themselves as "conservative" end up being some of the biggest enemies to personal liberty. I think your second either or is a much better description of the war in heaven and what we face "Individual liberty vs. compulsion." As long as "conservatives" are in power they are more then willing to help out their pet causes just the same way we see today that liberals are.
As far as "An Enemy Hath Done This" goes its a great book and holds a proud spot on my book shelve. Benson wrote that before he was the prophet though so while I may agree with much of it in no way should it be considered doctrine for the church.
Latter-day Saints.
ReplyDeleteYa jackass.
