I’m pretty sure this is why my ancestors fled the north easy over a hundred years ago. And no they didn’t leave to go to Utah; my pioneer ancestors fled the sissies in the north east for the Dakotas. Don’t ask I have no idea why.So a coyote showed up in New York City the other day and apparently people where so scared to see this “wild animal” in the city they decided the appropriate response was to call 911. This is a great illustration of what’s wrong with America today, people are too scared to go do battle with the wild.
If a coyote showed up in my neighborhood I would first think, “how cool is that?” and then chase it on out….by myself…..and without a weapon. Do I really need to call he cops on something like this? How far back would you have to go in the typical New Yorkers family tree to find some one with the guts to chase a wild animal? My guess is pretty far back. Its no wonder people want the government to protect them from everything, they get freaked out by a 30 pound dog looking for garbage.

The second link there is an article about Bobcats wandering around neighborhoods in Florida. People said they were scared. I tell you what, they ought to send that dude from AZ down there to give classes on how to choke rabid bobcats with your barehands.
Interesting reaction. Especially when you consider a few years ago we were at a family reunion up in the mountains and watched a mountain lion walk sedately past the campsite.
ReplyDeleteYeah...only about thirty feet away.
Looked at us all once and went on it's merry way.
No screaming, shouting, or dialing 9-1-1. Just interacted with nature a bit and let it be.
M. Galt you pretty much answered the question in your post already. The true blue coyote strangling folks moved away from New York long ago. My ancestors left back with Brigham Young on my dad's side and then tackled St. George and southern Utah/Nevada. The people that have staid till now have done so because they can't handle the "Wild West".
ReplyDeleteVery Redneck post of you M. Galt.
ReplyDeleteThank U James, I have to stay true to my roots in some way. All the education in the world can't take the country out of the man.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid we had lots of coyotes that would wander into our yard and eat our cats. Since I was young and scared my older brother wanted to show me how sissy coyotes are. He stuck a big piece of bleeding meat in our yard and we sat about 50 feet away. Every time a coyote came near he would simply start talking and the animal would run away. After about an hour we had a whole pack eyeing us and the meat. Finally one was brave enough to run and grab the meat, but he dropped it in his excitement and the whole pack freaked out and they ran away. My brother then turned on his stereo and left it running for the next three hours and the meat sat there. Eventually I felt sorry for the poor hungry animals and turned off the stereo and went inside so they could have it. The next day the meat was still there, i guess they thought we were hiding around the corner to get them if they touched the meat.
ReplyDeleteThat story rocks! Thanks for sharing Crayon.
